Colt Paterson for sale, The five-shot .36-caliber Paterson revolver became famous for its use on the western frontier. It is sometimes called the “Texas” Paterson because of its association with the Texas Rangers. This piece was filed as an example in the U. S. Patent Office about 1840. It is stamped with the Serial Number 414 on the frame and Serial Number 222 on the cylinder.
This revolver was kept at the Patent Office until its transfer to the Smithsonian in 1908.
Also, The Colt Paterson revolver was the first practical revolving-cylinder handgun ever made. Invented by Samuel Colt in 1831 and patented in 1836, the Colt Paterson revolver became synonymous with Texas. The Republic of Texas served as its proving ground and was nearly the only market for Colt’s revolutionary product. In 1839, the Republic of Texas ordered 180 of the .36-caliber Holster model revolvers for the Texas Navy, but most significant were the revolvers issued to the early Texas Rangers.
